This Wednesday, June 18, the works for “La Madalena” were launched in the Madeleine district. A future healthcare facility, focused on medical care, rehabilitation, and long-term care, is set to be established. This structure will strengthen the network of healthcare services in Nice.

There were a few houses. Soon, there will be a healthcare facility at 192 Boulevard de la Madeleine. This Wednesday, June 18, the first stone was laid. A symbolic gesture, marking at the same time, the beginning of a healthcare project. “La Madalena“, future facility of the Sedna Santé group, represents a new healthcare offering in Nice, developed in collaboration with the Alpes-Maritimes Departmental Council and the University Hospital Center of Nice. The first stone of a long series: the work is officially set to begin in the coming days.

A healthcare facility in the heart of the Madeleine

A medical care and rehabilitation service with thirty-five beds, a long-term care unit with ninety beds, and even a day hospital with ten places. These are the main features of “La Madalena“, the future healthcare facility on Boulevard de la Madeleine. “Having established this, this first stone, is the culmination of a major phase. But also the beginning. It was a long, laborious journey, and now it’s the construction phase“, recalled Fabrice Journel, president of the Sedna Santé group.

The advantage of a facility like this is the downstream, which is the issue with emergencies. The downstream is the beds. How to find beds? It is necessary that patients can be received in other services“, explained Dr. Hervé Caël, president of the Regional Council of the Order of Physicians, before adding: “we have an axis of convalescence and an axis for long-term care. It is a facility that is part of a national health dynamic.”

Although “La Madalena” has not yet found its final name, “we can find something better“, joked Fabrice Journel, the objectives are indeed clear. This facility will have the duty to meet the specific health needs of an elderly, vulnerable and isolated population, and to provide a comprehensive care with a certain comfort of life. All within a strong territorial anchor.

The coordination between different facilities

This facility was “an anticipated offer, essential“, according to Romain Alexandre, departmental director of ARS PACA. A new facility in the city center, like the Clinique du Parc Impérial. “I am a proponent of a city center healthcare offer, not everyone is able to go far, this offer is needed in the center“, emphasized the director.

A proximity that enhances the coordination of facilities among themselves. “Medical teams know each other, they trust each other. When they transmit a patient’s file, they know the patient is compliant with their file. And this is not always evident between facilities. There are establishments that pass on patients because they need it and attenuate the file. The network operation is very important. Good knowledge of one another allows all this to function“, explained Fabrice Journel. This new healthcare facility in the Madeleine is set to be completed by the end of 2027.
