The good order and the bad policy

Latest News

The incidents below, stigmatized by the Mayor of Nice, whose severity should not be underestimated, call for varied considerations. It is with great satisfaction that we can note that certain individuals whom we find difficult to consider criminals — their inclination tends more towards psychological disturbance — are quickly put in a situation where they can no longer continue their dangerous follies, which disturb and harm honest people.

estrosi_nb-7.jpg Besides prevention, intervention is obviously necessary when circumstances demand it. The justice system takes care of assessing the severity of the incidents and their responsibilities.

Saying “enough” is good and easy; we all agree that certain incidents and behaviors should no longer occur. But, since unfortunately that is not the case, what do we do? Do we merely say “enough” and play on emotions instead of addressing the complexity of the problems? Wouldn’t it be better to counter these deviations and bad examples with other models, other values?

Of course, the strength of pedagogy requires a lot of effort and time. Other options are more rewarding in terms of consensus…

In the statements of the Mayor of Nice, the logical connection between the incidents and the government’s policy is not clear. It is well known that any opportunity is good for a member of the opposition to criticize the government, but one should not go beyond the bounds of common sense.

We need to calm things down because at this pace, we will end up accusing the sitting government (whether it is right-wing, left-wing, or any other) of responsibility in case of bad weather!

This is a perilous exercise, because if governing men is already very difficult, imposing on Zeus° remains impossible!

The Facts

°° While two rival groups confronted each other in front of the SNCF station, some entered the tramway at the Gare Thiers station.

One of them had a weapon (which turned out to be fake) and two detonations were heard.

The different video surveillance cameras located nearby allowed municipal police officers to react immediately. The individual carrying the weapon was apprehended by the Municipal Police.

For Christian Estrosi: “At a time when the government questions the usefulness of video surveillance, I am pleased that the network of the city of Nice enabled the authors of these actions to be apprehended within minutes.

°°° A vehicle of the Nice municipal police was violently struck by a car that reportedly ran a red light.

The strong impact projected the Municipal Police vehicle onto the sidewalk, hitting a woman engaging in prostitution who died instantly.

The driver and passengers of the vehicle that collided with the municipal police vehicle, and presumably responsible for the accident, fled the scene. One of them was apprehended by the gendarmes and was reportedly intoxicated at the time of the events.

The three officers inside the vehicle were seriously injured.

For Christian Estrosi: “I deplore the death of this young woman. But beyond the tragedy, it once again appears that law enforcement is the victim of violent and indescribable behavior.

I urge the Government to fully grasp the legitimate concern that reigns within the law enforcement community. When the Republic is imperiled, it is the duty of the State to do everything in its power to restore order and protect the pillars of the Republic.”
