Created in 1974, the Doyen Jean Lépine Committee gathers, once a year, personalities from the world of knowledge who study files presented by the research laboratories of the University of Nice Sophia-Antipolis, following a call for projects. Financial aid is granted to the winners.

Since 2009, the Doyen Jean Lépine Committee has also awarded the “Grand Prize of the City of Nice” to the winners. This prize honors personalities from the scientific and artistic worlds who, through their careers and work, have helped to promote the city of Nice internationally.


Philippe Pradal, Mayor of Nice, presented the grand prizes this Monday to three recipients for their entire careers.

For the year 2014: Christian Sardet, marine biologist, emeritus researcher at the CNRS since 2011 within the Developmental Biology Laboratory, member of the Oceanographic Observatory of Villefranche-sur-Mer;

For the year 2015: Clément Rosset, philosopher. He notably developed a philosophical theory on “the approval of reality”. A specialist in Schopenhauer, he is the author of more than 37 books and 60 articles on the philosopher;

For the year 2016: André Ceccarelli, born in Nice, the musician was a member of the rock group Fran
