“Handiport’IAE” is a project organized by six students from the 2016-2017 class of the Sports Management program at the I.A.E. of Nice. It is on behalf of Sport’IAE, an association that creates sporting events, that this project was able to develop.
This adventure aims to raise awareness among young schoolchildren in Nice (5th grade) about “Sport with Disabilities” through encounters based on dialogue, exchange, and the practice of sports disciplines.
The HandiSport’IAE meetings: sporting activities for more than 300 school children in Nice
Handisport clubs from the department paired with about ten 5th-grade classes from the Nice academy represent the core principle of this project. These strong links between an athlete with disabilities and these young schoolchildren from Nice will allow the latter to become aware of this theme of Disability in adapted sports practice and respect for differences.
11 meetings took place in primary schools between November 2016 and February 2017.
During this meeting, the two worlds were able to interact together to achieve this lasting relationship often found between a coach and their players.
The common thread.
These sporting meetings addressed specific topics, such as citizenship and the sports practice of people with disabilities. The schoolchildren had the opportunity to meet a Handisport athlete and learn about what disability really is in daily life.
Indeed, this step serves as a prelude to the future realization of a handisport event in May 2017.
