“Shake Foot!” That is the name of this project, initiated by Inina Brook, director of the National Theatre of Nice, which aims to mix football and theater.
Passionate about Shakespeare, Irina Brook wanted to carry out this project to introduce the author, his universality, but also his humanity.
To do so, she turned to the most popular voices in our society, which logically includes professional football players.
This long-held dream of blending football and theater was realized thanks to Benjamin Mondou, the association Passionnรฉment TNN, and of course the OGC Nice club, which, through the willingness of its president, Jean-Pierre Rivรจre, once again agreed to step outside the bounds of football.
24 players took on the challenge
While Irina Brook originally thought she would only attract a few players from OGC Nice for this project, no fewer than 24 professionals participated, including Mario Balotelli.
One by one, each of the 24 players stood in front of Gaรซlle Simon’s camera to recite a line from a Shakespeare work. The goal was to show that Shakespeare belonged to everyone and was more accessible than it appeared.
The film of these performances will be screened on January 25th, at an event organized by the association Passionnรฉment TNN, where several players are expected to attend. The following day, the film will be shared on social media.
“Shake Foot!” is a project that is part of the 4th edition of the “Shake Nice!” festival, a festival centered around Shakespeare that will take place from January 24 to February 11, 2018. All information can be found on the TNN website.
