It was in a festive atmosphere that Nice opened its 128th edition of its carnival yesterday. This year, it will be themed around sports disciplines, with the very muscular “King of Sport”.
And it’s off for the 2012 edition of the Nice carnival.
On Place Masséna, the coronation of the “King of Sport” was warmly greeted by the public, to the lively rhythm of a thousand Nice schoolchildren singing and the aerial acrobatics of the Stulugatnuch company. After the traditional speech by the mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, accompanied by Aurélie the carnival queen, attention turned to the sovereign. The highlight of the show is the arrival of his very imposing majesty (about 18 meters tall), accompanied by his spouse, in a Formula 1 car. Needless to say, as a good representative of sports disciplines, the couple is in great shape. So much so that the sky lights up as they pass. Around 10 p.m., Nice organized a mini-pyrotechnic show around the statue of Apollo. A grandiose coronation for the “King of Sport”. He should enjoy it, as on March 4th, his reign will end in flames.
