The long-awaited new MIN project is taking shape.

Following the work of the steering committee, chaired by Martine Ouaknine, and the ad hoc commission, chaired by Christian Tordo, the anticipated project for the future National Interest Market (MIN) was unveiled yesterday afternoon at the Nice City Hall in the presence of Christian Estrosi.

On April 13, 2015, the metropolitan council decided to resort to a Public-Private Partnership for the design and construction of the future National Interest Market (MIN) on the La Baronne site, in the municipality of La Gaude, at the heart of the Eco-Valley.

The transfer of the MIN will provide the metropolis with an innovative tool adapted to future challenges to better support local producers and develop new agricultural sectors.

The municipality, at the request of producers and wholesalers, decided to take back the management of the MIN under direct administration:

  • to provide a solid institutional framework for activities and businesses while awaiting the transfer to the La Baronne site.
  • to maintain the fee rates as I had committed.โ€

As a reminder, the Nice MIN (National Interest Market) is one of the largest in France. Its turnover is estimated at nearly 252 million euros per year for more than 260 producers and thousands of related jobs.

โ€œIts reconfiguration and relocation aim to meet the expectations of professionals, wholesalers, and producers, while preserving and developing these jobs as well as our agricultural sector,โ€ declared Christian Estrosi.

The new MIN will cover 35,000 m2 with 800 parking spaces for light and utility vehicles, as well as 200 parking spaces for heavy vehicles. An improved road connection with the right bank is planned. It involves creating a partial interchange on RM 6202 bis to serve the future MIN and the right bank of the Var. The cost is estimated at 10 million euros to the charge of the metropolis but covered 100% by the EPA, for delivery by 2020.

โ€œThe relocation of the MIN will also free up a strategic site, just steps away from the second airport of France and the Multimodal Exchange Hub, for the construction of an exhibition center, which is a real necessity for our metropolis,โ€ added the Mayor of Nice.

The company EXTERIMMO was selected to ensure the construction of a modern, functional, connected, sustainable, and smart grid MIN. The new MIN will be able to accommodate the current MIN, while providing potential for evolution.

The idea is to integrate the new MIN qualitatively into the Eco-Valley environment:

  • 13 hectares, of which more than 3 hectares are sanctuarized and dedicated to the biodiversity conservation of the lower Var plain.
  • 45,000 m2 of floor space oriented towards eco-technology.
  • the use of renewable energies in production.

The anticipated project proposes:

  • two buildings dedicated to, on one hand, distributors, and on the other hand, wholesalers.
  • spaces dedicated to each type of professional.
  • parking spaces.
  • a central and animated producer’s market.
  • a welcoming area with restaurants and services.
  • optimal energy performance.
  • a saving of 2 million euros annually on rents.

Christian Estrosi wanted to remind that the future private partner will be responsible for the financing, construction, and maintenance of the MIN buildings, while their management will remain a competence of the MIN dโ€™Azur administration.

The realization of the new MIN represents more than 150 million euros invested in the local economy and the creation of 200 to 300 new jobs.
