The Assembly has finally approved the government’s statement regarding digital innovations in the fight against the coronavirus epidemic and the creation of the StopCovid app.
Out of 574 voters, 338 deputies were in favor, and 215 against. The app, technically operational and endorsed by the Cnil, will therefore be available in the App Store and Google Play Store from this Saturday, May 30.
StopCovid is a project that falls within the framework of the state of health emergency related to the coronavirus epidemic and, more specifically, the deconfinement strategy that the French government aims to implement. This project involves a smartphone application designed to “limit the spread of the virus by identifying transmission chains,” according to the Secretary of State for Digital Affairs, Cรฉdric O.
Simply put, it aims to be able to alert individuals who have been in contact with someone who tested positive, so that they can themselves be tested and self-isolate as quickly as possible, if necessary, or even receive care.
