The marriage between sports and rurality is called “sports in the meadow.”

The title is attractive, it is a good omen for a practical implementation that meets the ambition of an innovative project.

The Departmental Olympic Sports Committee is back on the path of promoting sports practice.

Following the Sports Caravan, which is now a reality with around thirty sports events in the Maralpine municipalities, it will be “sports in the meadow” which aims to introduce a new concept: engaging in sports practice in rural communities, where there are no sports facilities or associations but where there are young and older people who enjoy practicing sports.

Thus, the CDOS and its team of experts and volunteers step in with their expertise in logistics and organization.

In fact, it involves setting up and activating a small strategy that includes strict collaboration with the local town hall, analyzing the possibilities in terms of facilities, selecting the activities to offer, and organizing workshops and other events.

A Disc Golf sports practice course, a sport accessible to everyone, will be set up in each of the partner municipalities involved in this initiative.

The CDOS will support the activity during its initial phase before handing over the reins to a newly formed local sports association.

A sort of sports start-up… for wellness and social cohesion, with the partner for the first edition being the municipality of Ascros, with 160 inhabitants, located 1000 meters above sea level, in the Parc Naturel des Préalpes d’Azur.

A nice gift for the mayor, Vincent Giobergia, who did not hide his satisfaction during the presentation of the initiative at the National Museum of Sport, an emblematic location.

Another commitment for the dynamic president of the CDOS, Philippe Manassero, and his team who, with this initiative, take on the role of sport missionaries.
