In response to the surge in Covid-19 cases, the Mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, has decided to implement new measures concerning the organization of sporting events:

– All competitions with more than 300 competitors initially scheduled in the 2020 sports calendar are canceled.
– For sporting competitions with fewer than 300 competitors, organizers must provide the city of Nice with all guarantees confirming the implementation of strict guidelines and equipment ensuring compliance with health regulations.

The Mayor of Nice justified this decision by the new increase in positive cases and in order to protect the population as best as possible: “I understand the disappointment of the thousands of athletes who have been preparing for these major events around the world for weeks or even months. I understand them and look forward to seeing them in Nice next year,” he commented in a statement.

As a result, the two Ironman events, the Half-Marathon, and the Marathon, which had been scheduled or rescheduled for the autumn, are canceled.
