Until September 30, 2012, the Heritage Center of the City of Nice offers an exceptional opportunity to visit Fort Mont-Alban with a guided tour. A rich jewel of our heritage, classified as a Historic Monument in 1909, Fort Mont-Alban is a unique witness to military architecture during the time of the House of Savoy.

The visits take place every day (except Wednesday) at 3 PM, 4 PM, and 5 PM. Meet in front of the fort, Route du Fort-de-Mont-Alban.

Highlights include:

– A guided tour of the entire interior/exterior site,
– An exhibition tracing the history of the fort from its creation to the present day,
– A presentation of the 3D modeling of the fort,
– A panoramic view over Nice and Villefranche-sur-Mer.

Fort Mont-Alban is located in one of the highest protected natural areas on the Nice coast. It is a military structure built between 1557 and 1560 by order of Emmanuel Philibert, Duke of Savoy, by the architect Domenico Ponsello, following the siege of 1543. In the context of fortifying the Nice coast, Gianmaria Olgiati, general engineer of Charles V, suggested a defensive project including the castle of Nice, the Citadel of Villefranche-sur-Mer, and Fort Mont-Alban.

Since 2010, the fort has been undergoing a restoration project to preserve and maintain it.
