1. The Little Mermaid by Rob Marshall
Halle Bailey portrays Princess Ariel in this highly anticipated live-action remake of The Little Mermaid by Disney. This new adaptation of the 1989 animated film revisits Ariel’s adventures, the daughter of King Triton, along with her companions Flounder and Sebastian, under the sea. The young mermaid, curious and rebellious, is endlessly drawn to the world beyond the surface, the human world with which she is not allowed to interact. An unexpected encounter with Prince Eric, who enchants her, draws her permanently to land, but at what cost?
2. Knights of the Zodiac by Tomasz Baginski
This feature film, adapted from the famous Japanese manga by Masami Kurumada, is the first in a six-part saga. It tells the story of Seiya, the hero of this fantasy universe played by the American-Japanese actor Mackenyu. Seiya is a strong-willed teenager. To earn a living on the streets, the young man regularly participates in fights while searching for his kidnapped sister. One day, while he is in the ring, his destiny changes. He inadvertently taps into mystical powers he is unaware of. He is then thrust into a world of gods, goddesses, and armored knights.
3. Omar la Fraise by Elias Belkeddar
The film presented at the Midnight Screening at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival tells the adventures of Omar, also known as Omar la Fraise, a notorious bandit. Alongside his accomplice Roger, he lives a life of scams on the run under the Algerian sun. Having ruled the French underworld for decades, the gangster duo portrayed by Reda Kateb and Benoît Magimel must reconcile with their new life, having lived until now in a world of debauchery and violence.
4. Love and Forests by Valérie Donzelli
Blanche, played by Virginie Efira, meets Grégoire and falls under his spell. She believes he is the man she has been searching for. They don’t want to waste time, and everything moves quickly between them. The young couple moves, leaving the sea for the forests, and Blanche’s everyday life begins to quickly darken. Far from her loved ones, she finds herself under the control of a dangerous and possessive man. This feature film is a cinematic adaptation of the novel of the same name by Éric Reinhardt.
5. The Suitcase by Jorge Dorado
Mario, portrayed by Alvaro Morte, The Professor in the iconic Netflix series Money Heist, works in Madrid at the lost and found office. While a river is being dredged, numerous objects of all kinds are unearthed. Mario comes across a suitcase containing human bones and clothing that belonged to a child. Faced with this macabre discovery, the police seem uninterested. Determined to uncover the truth, Mario decides to take matters into his own hands and improvise as an investigator, risking his own life.
