This autumn, moving images are arriving for the inaugural edition of MOVIMENTA. Supported by the Nice Cรดte dโAzur metropolis, this festival will allow the public to discover a new form of art based on moving images. An open and accessible adventure for everyone.
For several decades, what we call virtual images have surrounded us. The biennial festival of moving images, taking place from October 27 to November 26, will highlight different ways of viewing artist films. During this month-long celebration, several locations will be repurposed for temporary exhibitions like the Promenade du Paillon, the Windsor Hotel, the CCI, and many others.
During the press conference that took place yesterday, Marianne Khalili-Romรฉo, the festival director, outlined the three main pillars of the program.
The first highlight is the Movimenta prize exhibition for young creation. The theme will be scenography around projection games. Eight works from young artists will be exhibited at the 109.
Another key moment of the festival will be the art & technology encounters. Workshops featuring demonstrations and experimentation will be presented.
Finally, there will be an urban celebration of moving images with the creation of a nighttime pathway on the Promenade du Paillon. There will be daily performances and screenings of artistic films.
“The spirit of Movimenta is the choice of an event that’s open to all, while being both demanding and popular,” explains the director. The goal is to entice a novice audience in terms of art through the use of a playful medium that increasingly occupies an important place in the lives of the French: video.
