The two men had noticed in previous years that the August festivity program was too light compared to July’s. Following this observation, they decided to rectify this by organizing 11 musical evenings, most of which will take place on the Promenade des Anglais. The latter, deemed “dead” in the evenings by the Vice President of the National Assembly, should come alive with the sound of concerts this summer. For the six Prom’party events organized, traffic will be blocked from the Albert 1er Garden to Boulevard Gambetta starting at 8:30 PM. Five music stages will be set up, each offering a different musical style (Jazz, Musette, Rock, etc.).
During these evenings, the restaurants located on the north sidewalk will be allowed to extend their terraces, while the private beaches on the south side can also set up a terrace on the promenade.
As last year, the Tourist Office is renewing its Musicalia Festival, now renamed “Les Nuits Musicalia”. You can attend free musical evenings starting at 9 PM at the Théâtre de Verdure. Five evenings are scheduled for August as part of Nuits Musicalia.
Regarding the fireworks on July 14 and August 15, innovations will be introduced. Following the disappointment of the July 14, 2008 fireworks, which were deemed too short and ordinary, this year’s fireworks will be sound-enhanced and longer.
Another novelty this season, the French Riviera Pass, formerly known as the Nice Riviera Pass. The name has been changed to encompass the entire Alpes-Maritimes department. This pass allows tourists to benefit from discounted rates or free entry to certain activities. For example, this card allows for free visits to the Chagall (Nice) and Picasso (Antibes) museums. Additionally, you can also get discounts at amusement parks, private beaches, restaurants, and stores (see the Tourist Office website). Three passes are available: a 24-hour pass costs 24 euros, a 48-hour pass is 36 euros, and a 72-hour pass is 54 euros.
From 2010, public transportation should also be free with the French Riviera Pass.
