The Nice department house also becomes the house of the mountain.

This new space aims to be a true tourist tool for enhancing the mountain, with the goal of highlighting the various activities related to the mountain and the winter season, as well as promoting Nice Côte d’Azur’s bid to host the 2018 Winter Olympic Games.

To achieve this, a welcome and support point for Nice’s bid for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games will be set up, providing the public with computers for online registration and drop-off boxes for support ballots. The “packages” area, which already in winter 2007 offered the possibility of purchasing ski lift passes for the Alpes-Maritimes resorts of Isola, Auron, Saint-Dalmas, la Colmiane, and Valberg, plans to expand its offer with two new resorts: Gréolières and Roubion. This space will also be redecorated with a mountain theme. In addition, the building will host work meetings related to the Alpes-Maritimes mountains. Finally, the history of winter sports in the department, from the end of the 19th century to the present day, will be retraced through an exhibition of images, photos, and the screening of a film compiling unreleased archival footage.

Let us recall that within the framework of the local proximity policy launched by the government, the General Council of Alpes-Maritimes has embarked on an initiative to create “Department Houses” to ensure better access to public services (processing and issuance of vehicle registration and driving licenses, etc.).

To date, six Department Houses are open and are very successful with both local and tourist audiences. Indeed, by the end of September 2008, more than 100,000 user transactions were recorded across the Department Houses network.
