‘”JOIA MERIDIA” will be a lively place 7 days a week, opposite to the traditional peripheral neighborhoods. Destination Méridia will be a true demonstrator of the city of tomorrow, an attractive living district where urban planning, 21st-century architecture, and landscape fully play their role for a better quality of life. The role of public authority is to precede this project, to accompany it: this is what we are doing with the tramway, the parks’ works which start now and the launch of the university project (IMREDD and the learning campus) which will bring life and activity to this new centrality of your city.’ Christian Estrosi.

Benefiting from a strategic location and a tremendous potential for transformation and urban qualification, Joia Méridia is intended to become the centrality of the urban technopolis of NICE ÉCOVALLÉE: a friendly, comfortable, and innovative district.

As part of the “Destination Méridia” call for projects launched by EPA NICE ÉCOVALLÉE, it is the Pitch Promotion — Eiffage Immobilier team that was named the winner by an international jury of urban planners and architects on December 20, 2017.

Coordinated by the Lambert Lénack agency, this international and multidisciplinary team is composed of architects Sou Fujimoto (Japan), Cino Zucchi (Italy), Laisné Roussel, Roland Carta, Chartier Dalix, Anouck Matecki, and the landscape architect Alain Faragou.

With a focus on housing and local shops, the project seeks to rethink and revisit the 21st-century city of Nice by giving it an Azurean identity and soul, echoing the historic city.

For Christian Estrosi, Mayor of Nice, President of the Metropolis, Deputy President of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region, and President of the board of EPA NICE ÉCOVALLÉE, “I wanted this new district to be a true living place, permanently animated, opposite to the usual peripheral neighborhoods. Joia Meridia responds to this wish, while echoing the traditional Mediterranean city.”

For Olivier Sassi, Director General of EPA NICE ÉCOVALLÉE, “Joia Méridia embodies the EPA’s ambition to develop according to predominant criteria of sustainability, innovation, landscape integration and high architectural quality. This district is a renewed invitation to an Azurean art of living.”

The winning team will have the mission to carry out, over a period of six years with EPA NICE ÉCOVALLÉE as the developer, this new district meeting the challenges of environmental and social innovation, and urban animation. A reference architectural site, but also and above all, a new living place, this mixed-use district, endowed with high quality of use, will be exemplary in terms of environmental impact. It is part of the EcoCité and smart grid approach, developed by the Metropolis Nice Côte d’Azur and EPA NICE ÉCOVALLÉE on the ZAC Méridia and the territory of NICE ÉCOVALLÉE.

AN INTENSE AND INNOVATIVE PROGRAMMATIC VOLUME

Covering about 73,500 m2 of SDP, Joia Méridia will offer 51,300 m2 of housing (800 housing units distributed as “free, controlled, social rental and social access”), 7,900 m2 of hotel and para-hotel services, 6,100 m2 of shops, 2,850 m2 of offices and services, over 5,000 m2 for the City of Well-Being, and 1,220 private and public parking spaces.

Joia Meridia carries the ambition of a mixed-use program projected into the future while respecting current needs. A hotel, shared dynamic workspaces, hybrid buildings, and flexible housing are the soul of these innovative buildings.
