With this second lockdown, the Nice Cรดte d’Azur Opera has decided to innovate by offering digital access to the performances initially planned for the upcoming monthโs schedule.
While the last performance of “Akhnaten” was scheduled for tomorrow night, the Nice Cรดte d’Azur Opera had no choice but to postpone all performances scheduled for November. Nevertheless, although physical presence is no longer possible, Bertrand Rossi, the new general director, announced that he has found a solution that should delight opera lovers: “The production of Akhnaten has been recorded and will also be available for viewing.” This gives the public the opportunity to discover this atypical work, created by the American composer Philip Glass. Thus, the preparation and broadcast will have been made possible almost exclusively thanks to digital means. During the first lockdown, to avoid falling behind, the show teams had already worked via videoconference to familiarize themselves and fully immerse themselves in the venues in the best possible way.
Other concerts, such as the symphonies conducted by Lionel Bringuier or the “Beethoven Cycle,” will also be filmed and broadcast via the City of Niceโs “Cultivez-vous” platform and on the Operaโs website.
For those who have already reserved their tickets, they will be refunded shortly while awaiting a future rescheduling. This is expected to take place next year, depending on the evolution of the health crisis, naturally, since “nothing replaces the magic of live performances,” notes the new director, who is undoubtedly experiencing a first season that will sadly remain memorable.
