Planned in the ANRU project aimed at rehabilitating certain degraded areas of the city, the social facilities in the Pasteur neighborhood were inaugurated yesterday by authorities representing local communities. This will provide residents of this neighborhood with a center for social and cultural activities.
Christian Estrosi, Deputy Mayor of Nice, President of the Metropolis Nice Cรดte d’Azur, Eric Ciotti, Deputy, President of the General Council of Alpes-Maritimes and Patrick Allemand, Municipal Councilor, 1st Vice-President of the Provence-Alpes-Cรดte d’Azur region, inaugurated the library and the Pasteur Leisure Activity Center on Monday, June 10.
Starting today and until June 28, voting is being offered to all residents of the Pasteur neighborhood to select the future name of this facility. People wishing to express their opinion and vote are invited to go to 12 Maccario Street. Five names are in contention: Colette, Marguerite Yourcenar, Camille Claudel, Elsa Triolet, and Geneviรจve Anthonioz-De Gaulle.
The new facilities
The Library and the Pasteur Leisure Activity Center
This facility, covering an area of 1,031mยฒ, includes on two floors a library and a Leisure Activity Center.
The name of the facility will be chosen by the neighborhood residents following a consultation organized from June 11 to 28, 2013, within the establishment. Five names are in contention: Colette, Marguerite Yourcenar, Camille Claudel, Elsa Triolet, and Geneviรจve Anthonioz-De Gaulle.
The total cost of the operation amounts to more than 2,536,465.75 euros excluding tax, with the city of Nice providing 38% of the funding.
The Library
Covering 500mยฒ, the library comprises three spaces with adult, youth, and multimedia sections.
As with all other libraries in the municipal network of Nice, registration and borrowing are free for all.
Various cultural activities will be organized occasionally in conjunction with the Leisure Activity Center: storytime, thematic conferences, film screenings, and workshops for children.
The Leisure and Activity Center
The Leisure and Activity Centers (CAL) are municipal proximity facilities that offer leisure, cultural, and sports activities, along with socio-educational animation activities complementing those provided by associations.
The CAL Pasteur includes an exhibition hall and two multipurpose rooms where sports and cultural activities are already being offered (fitness, contemporary dance, discovery and creation workshops for children and teenagers, Niรงois language courses, writing workshopsโฆ).
Come September 2013, additional activities will be offered: dance, karate, zumba, yoga, handi musicโฆ.
