“The Power of the Dog” by Jane Campion unveils its first trailer

Latest News

This year, the New Zealand director Jane Campion returns with *The Power of the Dog*. A first trailer was released this week, more brutal and intriguing than ever.

*The Power of the Dog* is an adaptation of the novel *The Power of the Dog* by Thomas Savage (1960). This western features two brothers from Montana, Phil (played by *Benedict Cumberbatch*) and George Burbank (*Jesse Plemons*). The two men are diametrically opposed. George is benevolent and phlegmatic while Phil is cruel and refined. One day, George secretly marries Rose (*Kirsten Dunst*), a young widow. Phil then flies into a rage and decides to do everything to destroy her.

In this trailer, we can see a mysterious, calculating, and cold Benedict Cumberbatch. From the very first seconds, we can hear a whistle that reminds us of *M*, the terrifying killer by Fritz Lang. The trailer features many close-ups, notably of a rope and a knife. This might suggest a tragic outcome for one of the protagonists. Additionally, there are virtually no dialogues, which reinforces the sense of anxiety and oppression.

Finally, the film is set to be released on December 1 on Netflix.
