The presence of the bacterium Xylella Fastidiosa is confirmed.

Latest News

The Ministry of Agriculture confirmed on Tuesday that it is indeed Xylella Fastidiosa that has been detected on a landscaped roundabout on Mercantour Boulevard in Nice.

The subspecies of the bacteria is the same as the one discovered in July in Corsica. However, unlike the one affecting Italy, it does not attack olive trees or vines.

The bacteria is transmitted by piercing and sucking insects, such as the spittlebug, which attack the tops of trees causing them to dry out quickly before contaminating nearby plants.

To prevent the spread of the bacteria, several measures have been taken: identification of vectors on site, pest control, and protection of the plants with nets.
