“The most brilliant of civilizations,” “Magical and mysterious”… There is no shortage of adjectives to describe ancient Egypt, a source of fascination and admiration, which continues to reveal submerged secrets and treasures buried under a history spanning several millennia.
Although there have been numerous exhibitions dedicated to this theme, for the first time the Grimaldi Forum Monaco will create a sensation by highlighting, across nearly 4000 mยฒ, the figures of the “Queens of Egypt.”
The exhibition’s curator, Christiane Ziegler, has gathered nearly 250 masterpieces to illustrate this theme, masterpieces from the world’s greatest museums: Cairo, New York, Berlin, Munich, London, Turin, Moscow… and of course, the Louvre, where Ms. Ziegler directed the prestigious Department of Egyptian Antiquities until May 2007.
The scenography, spectacular in scale, is designed by Franรงois Payet, who previously authored the exhibition “Imperial Saint Petersburg” at the Grimaldi Forum, which traced the history of the city from the reign of Peter the Great to that of Catherine II in 2004.
Starting July 12th, prepare for an unprecedented encounter with the Egyptian woman, who as wife, mother, and daughter of pharaohs influenced three thousand years of Egypt’s history. This will be done through portraits of exceptional figures such as Cleopatra, Nefertiti, Nefertari, or Hatshepsut… and many other queens who are just waiting to be revealed to the general public.
