“Last year, with last-minute registrations, we had to urgently bring in canoes from Dordogne,” recounts Pascal Thiriot, president of Azur Sport. This story highlights the success of the 2006 edition of the Raid Agglo. In a week, the multidisciplinary event that combines sport and adventure is expected to be similarly successful. The Raid Agglo will count towards the “Green Challenge” circuit, which includes six major raids across France. Cancaventure is the new feature. Completely free, this sports initiation in Nice will allow a large number of people to experience the sporting activities of a sports raid: zip-lining, archery, orienteering, and climbing wall. It will start on March 2 from 2 PM at Quai Rauba Capeu.
CANCA targets its sports policy towards the development of nature sports. The environment and diversity of the territory are perfectly suited for this. Creating an event that combines all the features of the Azurean topography (sea and mountain) was the main ambition of the first edition of the Raid Agglo in 2005. A success that continued in 2006 and will continue in 2007. 90% of participants declared themselves satisfied. The concept is basically explained as combining sporting challenges and cultural and tourist discoveries over a weekend, allowing amateurs and high-level athletes to compete in the same events. Comprising teams of 3 (two always racing and one assisting), the Raid requires thought and solidarity.
The entirety of the 24 municipalities of CANCA has seen competitors pass through. Around Levens the first year, on the right bank of the Var last year. In 2007, the towns of Beaulieu-sur-Mer, Cap d’Ail, Eze, Falicon, La Trinité, Nice, Saint André La Roche, Saint Jean Cap Ferrat, Villefranche sur Mer will host the events.
