“The school takes action!” The Grenelle for future generations has been announced since last November 29. This initiative by the Minister of National Education, Xavier Darcos, is sponsored by Nicolas Vanier, an Arctic explorer, writer, and filmmaker. This project is aimed at all French middle and high schools offering general, technological, and vocational education.
Workgroups will be organized around thematic areas. Energy management and the fight against global warming will meet biological diversity. The impact of the environment on health, agriculture, or even proposals for modes of economic development integrating sustainable development principles will be developed.
The operation will be carried out in three phases. First, a period of reflection and studies of the Environmental Grenelle that has just concluded. Teachers and students will be brought to react on what has been discussed, thanks to educational sheets. The second phase will revolve around the website https://www.lecoleagit.fr during the first half of 2008, where the educational community will make proposals and internet users will react. Note the possibility of modifying the site’s interface, particularly for a polluted environment!
Its goal is to result in about fifteen proposals, which will then be validated by a committee of recognized specialists. They will study their feasibility so they can be implemented at the classroom level. Finally, these proposals will be submitted to the President of the Republic in May 2008. Episodes to follow soon on Nice Premium!
