Xavier Garcia, the Socialist departmental secretary, wrote to all left-wing parties to call for the creation of a liaison committee.
This committee – says the initiator of the initiative – will aim to reestablish a permanent dialogue on the left, where divisions have been costly during recent electoral events, and to adopt a common position on the reception of refugees in the Alpes-Maritimes and on managing the situation at the French-Italian border.
The time of the left’s unity is long gone, with the Front de Gauche now being the most vehement opponent of government policy. In the regional elections, having a common candidate in the first round is out of the question.
During the last cantonal elections, everyone went their separate ways, and the left ultimately suffered for it!
Is it a matter of political line or personal careers?
We acknowledge the persistence of Xavier Garcia, who persists despite the closed doors of recent times. Meanwhile, the two increasingly interfaced right-wings are progressing and seizing all institutional powers.
The marginalized lefts, competing among themselves to determine who is more left-wing than the other, are left only with egos… and there are many of those!
