A delegation from Nice traveled to Washington to strengthen the ties between the two territories. Opening of a direct air route, establishment of a local office: the tourism strategy is intensifying.
Nice Cรดte dโAzur continues its policy of international outreach. In Washington, several highlights marked the week of travel for the Niรงois officials.
A first evening event was held at the Residence of France. More than 450 guests responded to the invitation. Among them were elected officials, economic leaders, diplomats, representatives from the scientific community, journalists, and influencers. All gathered to discuss the Niรงois territory, as well as the UNOC, an international conference on oceans which will take place in Nice next month.
The event was organized with the support of Laurent Bili, Ambassador of France to the United States. The gastronomy was provided by Sรฉbastien Roux, chef at the Hyatt Regency Nice Palais de la Mรฉditerranรฉe.
This communication initiative is part of a strategy for tourism development, but also economic and diplomatic strengthening. It aims to reinforce ties with the United States, a market already well established for Nice.
A multi-faceted strategy
The launch of the new direct air route between Nice and Washington is an important axis of this operation. Implemented by United Airlines, this connection paves the way for potential yearly service. It is an addition to the already existing flights from New York, Atlanta, and Philadelphia.
At the same time, a permanent representation office has been opened in the United States. It will be led by Michel Couturier from the company MarketID, which supports other major international destinations. The objective: to provide increased visibility for Nice, particularly in the business tourism sector.
Meetings were also organized with Atout France USA, its director Frรฉdรฉric Mazenq, the specialized press, and several tour operators. They helped identify action levers for the coming years.
The North American market remains in strong growth. In 2024, overnight stays by American clients increased by 26% across the entire metropolitan area and by 27% in Nice alone. Air traffic between Nice and the United States has increased by 44%.
North American clients stay on average for a week, with expenditures estimated at โฌ135 per day. The majority of visitors choose high-end hotels.
Nice Cรดte dโAzur is relying on these positive results to structure a sustainable strategy. Other operations are planned in the coming months.
