The festival “Un festival c’est trop court” promotes the discovery of works by young European creators by presenting about forty short films in the context of a European Competition. Every year, the festival highlights a European country with a wide range of films: returning to the south with Portugal in 2009.
The festival invites the audience to come and choose their “Grand Prix 2009” from the official selection, but also from the many thematic programs (school sessions, films shot in the region, New Images, clips…): nearly 170 films divided into about twenty programs.
Europe remains at the heart of the festival’s cherished themes (European Competition, featuring around twenty nationalities, cinematography of a featured country), and the association Héliotrope has been hosting a Polish student since November 2008 as part of the European Voluntary Service.
Mediterranean
Europe as well as the Mediterranean, represented this year by Portugal. An invitation to travel through some 40 films in collaboration with the CAMOES INSTITUTE, the LUSOPHONE COMMUNICATION SPACE, and with the support of the Embassy of Portugal.
Cinema!
It lasts less than an hour, so what?! The short film is cinema! A cinematic act freed from all commercial constraints. Cinema of the intimate rather than the spectacular, of boldness rather than academia.
Interdisciplinarity
“Un festival c’est trop court” remains curious and alternative: the 2009 edition opens several doors to music, theater, literature, and photography.
Transmission
Young audiences are invited to participate in school sessions: an active participation in the festival since some students (5th graders from Mistral College – Nice) who participate in a programming workshop, will have to present a selection of films and lead a critical session.
Reflection
The festival invites all professionals to come and exchange with authors and specialists during workshops and meetings. A professional space that has significantly expanded this year.
Creation & Emotion
A film concert by IN EXTENSO on the first film of MANOEL DE OLIVEIRA (Douro), as part of an exceptional opening evening punctuated by an emotional musical novel, FRERE ANIMAL.
