The play by Marlowe revisited as a punk tragedy and emblem of gay resistance.

Synopsis: Newly crowned, Edward II recalls his lover Piers Gaveston from exile. He lavishes him with gifts and honorary titles and allows him to take revenge on the Bishop of Winchester, who was responsible for his banishment, by having him tortured and imprisoned in the Tower of London. In response, the court, united under the leader of the army Mortimer and the neglected Queen Isabella, organizes to bring about the downfall of the troublesome favoriteโ€ฆ

Telerama: โ€œFor Derek Jarman, already ailing, the โ€˜forces of Evilโ€™ are the England beset by the conservative revolution of Margaret Thatcher and, consequently, by a devastating homophobia.
