The Yellow Coins Operation in Nice

Latest News

On the occasion of the 17th edition of the “Pièces Jaunes” initiative, aimed at improving the daily lives of children and adolescents in hospitals, Mrs. Bernadette Chirac, President of the Paris Hospitals-France Hospitals Foundation, and David Douillet, patron of “Pièces Jaunes”, are visiting children and their families aboard the “Pièces Jaunes” TGV, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary in Nice on Sunday, January 29th.

The TGV weekend, a highlight of the “Pièces Jaunes” campaign, aims to mobilize all children in support of their hospitalized peers and to collect as many yellow, copper, and bicolored coins as possible.

The “Pièces Jaunes” TGV, which has visited around forty cities since 1997, will stop this year in Rouen, Caen, Montélimar, and Nice. It will be present in Nice on Sunday, January 29, from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

Join us in Nice to share moments of solidarity and celebration!

Being supportive of hospitalized children:
All children and their families are invited to bring their piggy banks, filled with euro coins (yellow, copper, and bicolored) to the station. All the coins will be weighed continuously on a giant scale.

Sharing festive moments:
The entire station will be in celebration for the joy of children: performances and games will be organized both by the City of Nice and by the partners of the “Pièces Jaunes” operation.

The City of Nice organizes a wide variety of entertaining activities:
– Demonstrations of flamenco, jazz dance, salsa, Afro dance, gymnastics expression, tap dancing, classical and jazz dance, ballroom dances, USA folklore and country dances.
– French songs, soul music and songs.

The partners of the “Pièces Jaunes” operation also mobilize to present numerous festive activities. And for the gourmets, pastries and hot chocolates will be distributed to children and their families.
– Clowns and jugglers, football balloon throwing games, distribution of paper hats and inflatable balloons, coloring stand, and makeup kiosk.

Artists such as Marc Lavoine, Jenifer, Natacha St-Pier, Patrick Fiori, Chimène Badi, Julie Zenatti, Corneille, Magalie, winner of Star Academy 5, Tina Arena, K-Maro, Nolwenn Leroy, Gage, and others will be present and lend their support during a big concert from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Théâtre de Verdure.

Numerous “Pièces Jaunes” projects are waiting for funding:
Thanks to the continuously renewed generosity of children from Alpes-Maritimes and the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region for their hospitalized peers, many projects aimed at improving daily life in hospitals have already been realized in the pediatric services of the region’s hospitals.

Since “Pièces Jaunes” was created in 1990, 246 projects have been subsidized in hospitals and pediatric services of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region (total subsidy of €1,740,110), 28 in the Alpes-Maritimes department (for a sum of €214,196) and 19 projects in the city of Nice for a sum of €162,621.

In Nice, two apartments were set up in the city center to accommodate families of children hospitalized in pediatrics either at the University Hospital Center or at the Lenval Foundation (subsidy of €40,000).

At the Archet Hospital, in the oncology-hematology service, a playroom was set up (subsidy of €2,675) and in the pediatric service, the decoration and signage could be redone (subsidy of €4,207).

In the Alpes-Maritimes, computer equipment was purchased for children followed at the Departmental Medico-Educational Institute in Menton (granted subsidy:
€1,400).

In the Provence-Alpes Côte d’Azur region, 91 pain pumps were assigned from 1999 to 2004.

The “Pièces Jaunes” operation has made possible, thanks to the support of the French, more than 4,600 projects aimed at improving the quality of life of children and adolescents in hospitals over 16 years. More than 1,000 pain pumps in 374 pediatric services have also been assigned to alleviate pain.

The Solenn House – Home for Adolescents opened its doors in 2004, and seven facilities dedicated to caring for suffering adolescents have been supported thanks to the last two editions of “Pièces Jaunes”. However, there is still much to do. The medical and nursing teams of the pediatric services of hospitals have designed many new projects, more than 630 are waiting for subsidies at the Foundation. Therefore, everyone’s mobilization is essential.

From January 11 to February 11, 2006,
all hospitalized children and adolescents are counting on us!

The “Pièces Jaunes” TGV 2006 event is organized with the Bank of France, Bayard Jeunesse, Carrefour, Gaz de France, the National Confederation of French Bakeries and Pastry Shops, La Poste, the Ministry of National Education, Higher Education and Research, Orange by France Télécom, RTL, SNCF, TF1.

Thanks to PUBLI 3 for the wrapping of the “Pièces Jaunes” TGV 2006 and to Paru Vendu.
