Mathilda May is the guest who is invited to speak this Friday, December 7, brought by Daniel Benoin, director of Anthรฉa and stage director, in front of students from the Conservatoire ร Rayonnement Rรฉgional de Nice at 2:30 PM.
After studying classical dance at the Conservatoire National Supรฉrieur de Paris, from which she received the first prize, she turned to acting and began her film career in 1984. In 1988, she won the Cรฉsar Award for Most Promising Actress in Claude Chabrol’s “The Cry of the Owl,” as well as the Romy Schneider Prize.
In 1995, she provided the French voice for Pocahontas for Disney.
On stage, Bernard Murat directed her in Harold Pinter’s “The Homecoming” (1994), alongside Jean-Pierre Marielle, Patrick Chesnais, Franรงois Berlรฉand, Roger Dumas, and Guillaume Depardieu.
In 1992, she collaborated with English and American composers to create an album (released by Sony), which earned her a nomination at the Victoires de la Musique. In 1997, she composed the music for the play “Le roman de Lulu.”
In 2008, after writing a novel published by Flammarion (“Personne ne le saura”), she initiated the show “Plus si affinitรฉ,” which she performed and co-wrote in tandem with Pascal Lรฉgitimus. This show was successively performed at the Splendid, the Casino de Paris, the Thรฉรขtre du Gymnase, L’Olympia, and on tour in France, Switzerland, and Belgium for three years.
Subsequently, she performed at the Thรฉรขtre National de Nice as well as at the Thรฉรขtre du Rond-Point, and the Thรฉรขtre des Cรฉlestins in Lyon, in Thomas Winterberg’s play “Festen, la suite” alongside Samuel Le Bihan, Mรฉlanie Doutey, and Pierre Cassignard, directed by Daniel Benoin.
In 2013, she created “Open Space,” a wordless show in which she is both the author, director, and composer, at the Thรฉรขtre Jean Vilar de Suresnes. This show was revived to open the season at the Thรฉรขtre du Rond-Point in early September 2014, then at the Thรฉรขtre de Paris before going on tour until early February 2016.
In 2016, she directed a hip-hop ballet “Trio” as part of the “Suresnes Citรฉ Danse” festival, and an evening of readings as part of the “Paris des femmes” festival.
In 2018, she starred in a series (as an actress) for C8 with Ahmed Sylla, and she released her first autobiographical narrative entitled “V.O.” at Plon.
