In the context of the heightened vigilance of State services, four myrtle-leaved milkwort shrubs (Polygala myrtifolia) located in the municipalities of Nice, Villeneuve Loubet, and Mandelieu have been identified as carrying the Xylella Fastidiosa bacteria, multiplex subspecies, by the plant health laboratory of ANSES.

In accordance with control measures aimed at preventing the introduction and spread of Xylella Fastidiosa within the European Union, as provided by the European Commission Implementing Decision of December 17, 2015, and the ministerial order of December 23, 2015, the following measures are being implemented:

– Establishment of an “infected” zone 100 meters around the contaminated plants: conduct pest control on all plants and remove host plants.

– Establishment of a “buffer” zone 10 km around this infected zone; movements of specified plants (approximately 200 at-risk plant species) are prohibited or strictly regulated with exemptions issued by the State.

An epidemiological investigation is also underway to determine the origin of the milkwort plants and their planting date.
