Tourism: Highs and Lows for Easter on the French Riviera

Latest News

The Easter weekend traditionally marks the beginning of the summer season, but this was not the case this year on the coast, and this is due to several reasons. The decrease ranged from 8 to 10% compared to March 2015.

First of all, Easter is very early this year, and choices have certainly been made in favor of skiing. Furthermore, the recent attacks in Paris, Bamako, Brussels, Ankara, etc., do not encourage travel anywhere. Lastly, the weather this weekend was not the most favorable.

Michel Tschann, President of the Nice hoteliers, prefers, as usual, to see the glass half full: “The ski resorts, on the other hand, are in great shape, and the activity is strong there thanks to abundant snow, which will allow our hotels to make up for a poor start to the winter season.”

According to him: “April is still relatively calm, but the summer should go favorably, barring new attacks: the drop in the Euro is very favorable to us, and the rift between Turkey and Russia should bring us a few more Russians, even if our prices are significantly higher than Turkish prices due to the heaviness of charges and social obligations.”

So, the summer will be hot on the hotelier side of the French Riviera!
