“The tradition dates back to the 16th century. It was a genuine celebration during which farmers and ‘agro-pastoralists’ came to Nice to sell their products. It was a time of exchange and a festive occasion for all these merchants who came down to the city. It was also a moment of conviviality, where families and friends would reunite, a fair that created social connections. At the time, San Bertoumiรฉu was a very important event in Niรงoise culture. This is why the city of Nice wants to connect this past to our present.
## Nice has its own AOC
From 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, on the squares of Palais de Justice, St Franรงois, and Auguste Icart, as well as in the streets Rossetti and de la Prรฉfecture, hundreds of stands await us. Stands entirely dedicated to typically Niรงoise products. The idea is to show the population, and of course the tourists, the diversity of Niรงoise culture, both through its craftsmanship and its terroir. We even have a controlled designation of origin, like Niรงoise olive oil, for example.
What we want to say to the population is: look at how vibrant and dynamic this culture is. There are people who live off this. And it is our role, as elected officials, to support these people. Thanks to them, there is a genuine transmission of know-how dating back to the Middle Ages.”
