Travelers will need to organize themselves this weekend on the French Riviera. Due to modernization work on railway facilities, SNCF train traffic will be interrupted on several lines on Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20, 2026. Replacement buses will be put in place.
A disrupted weekend is shaping up for train users in the Alpes-Maritimes. SNCF announces several traffic interruptions related to work being carried out on railway facilities. On Saturday, September 19, traffic will notably be interrupted between Antibes and Monaco, while no SNCF trains will operate on the Nice – Breil – Tende line.
Nice Ville station will also be affected by a complete power outage. On Sunday, September 20, disruptions will focus on the connection between Cannes and Grasse.
« As part of its maintenance and modernization mission for railway facilities, SNCF Réseau is carrying out three major operations during the weekend of September 19 and 20, in Marseille, between Cannes and Grasse, and in Nice », announces the company’s regional management.
Several lines affected this Saturday, September 19
The work will result in « occasional changes to service between Marseille and Monaco, Grasse and Cannes, Nice and Tende. » A power outage is planned to enable a new phase of modernization of railway facilities.
This Saturday, September 19, no trains will operate at Nice Ville station. Rail traffic will also be completely interrupted between Antibes and Monaco as well as between Grasse and Cannes.
On the Nice – Breil – Tende line, no SNCF trains will operate. Italian trains will, however, be able to run normally between Breil and Tende.
Service will also be « adapted » between Les Arcs-Draguignan and Antibes as well as between Monaco and Ventimiglia.
These operations are part of the High Performance Marseille-Ventimiglia (HPMV) project. « The operation is part of the High Performance Marseille-Ventimiglia project (HPMV) […] which combines the deployment of a new automatic signaling system, ERTMS (European Rail Traffic Management System), and the implementation of remote control of rail traffic », SNCF clarifies.
The stated objective is notably to enable more frequent train traffic.
Replacement buses mobilized
On Sunday, September 20, the situation will change on the Riviera rail network. The Grasse – Cannes line will be completely interrupted, while traffic will resume on the other sections affected Saturday.
Replacement buses from the Zou network will be mobilized during the weekend to take over on certain routes.
For travelers wishing to reach Nice Côte d’Azur airport, several bus lines should be prioritized: line 80 from Monaco or Menton, line 81 from Cannes, line 82 from Antibes and line 650 from Grasse.
SNCF indicates that the various work sites have been grouped together over this same weekend to limit interruption periods. « Carried out jointly to avoid multiplying interventions over time and optimize the interruption period, these work sites will result in occasional changes to service between Marseille and Monaco, Grasse and Cannes, Nice and Tende », indicates SNCF Réseau.
This is not the first time the network has been disrupted as last June, no trains were able to operate for major work on the tracks.
