An essential master of Indian percussion, Trilok Gurtu is also a true showman and a visionary composer: he takes us on a journey from electronic bhangra to raga-pop, with original fusions between ethnic music, jazz, and classical.
Surrounded by tablas, cymbals, and Western drums, Trilok Gurtu has found his own style, merging artistry with aesthetics. His compositions, an alliance of diverse genres, unite rather than divide, drawing from multiple musical traditions.
Of Indian origin and educated at Don Bosco High School, a Catholic school in Bombay, Trilok was immersed in an intense musical culture from an early age. His grandfather was a renowned sitar player, and his mother, Shobha Gurtu, was a famous singer of Indian classical hymns. She strongly encouraged her son in this direction by placing a tabla in his hands at a very young age (a percussion instrument widely used in northern India).
