One brings life and Ubu, we hope, an antidote to the grey forces.
A roaring laughter and the renewed certainty that the world is too fragile a matter to be entrusted to despots of all kinds.
If the Ibis is visible in Egypt, UBU will be presented on March 11 and 12 at the Théâtre Francis Gag in Nice, and from April 8 to 17 at the Théâtre Alexandre III in Cannes!
Ubu by Alfred Jarry can be seen as a parody of Macbeth!
Or how Mother UBU pushes Father UBU to become King of Poland in place of the King of Poland…
To achieve this, she tickles him in particular spots: his craving for sausage, and the possibility of having a large umbrella. This is how, after proving himself by expropriating the scholar Achras from his own apartment, Father UBU, from one thing to another (or rather: at the tip of the sword) will become King of Poland and implement his program: “Cornegidouille! Here I am king in this country. I have already given myself an indigestion and I will now start taking all the finance, after which I will kill everyone and leave.”

A precursor of surrealism and the theater of the absurd, JARRY entered the Rennes high school in 1888. Mr. Hébert, a physics teacher, embodies in the eyes of his students “all the grotesque that is in the world.” The teacher becomes the hero of an abundant school literature, including a text titled Les Polonais. In his senior year, Jarry transformed “Les Polonais” into a comedy: this will be the earliest version of UBU ROI.
Close to Marcel Schwob, Alfred, and Rachilde Valette, the troublemaker originally from Laval manages to make a start of a reputation in Parisian artistic circles. A convinced anarchist, Jarry’s delirious works do not fail to cause scandal, particularly during a performance at the Théâtre de l’Oeuvre in 1896. The writer, an avid reader of Rabelais, displays his talents as a symbolist poet with works like “César antéchrist,” and as a novelist with “Les Jours et les nuits” and “Le Surmâle.” Creator of “pataphysics,” the science of imaginary solutions, defined in “Gestes et opinions du docteur Faustroll, pataphysicien,” Alfred Jarry draws in his wake many writers fond of madness and derision.
