According to the data released by INSEE, the unemployment rate decreased by 0.4 percentage points in the fourth quarter of 2019 to reach 8.1% of the labor force. It thus reached its lowest level since late 2008 and the financial crisis.
Over one year, the unemployment rate, measured according to the International Labour Organization (ILO) standards, fell by 0.7 percentage points. France (excluding Mayotte) thus had 2.424 million unemployed people at the end of last year, which is 85,000 fewer over the quarter.
This result coincides with an increase in the overall employment rate (an increasingly large proportion of French people are in the labor market, and job creation more than compensates for this influx).
