In the span of three months, there have been over 1,065,200 new registrations with Pôle Emploi. This is the direct consequence of the lockdown and the abrupt slowdown of economic activity.

Unemployment saw a dramatic increase in April: +22.6%, which means 843,000 additional job seekers.

France now has 4,575,000 unemployed people in category A, with no activity whatsoever. Most of them still had short-term, indefinite contracts in their trial period in previous months.

Net of these transitions between categories (A-B-C), the negative balance is 209,300 units, a decrease of 3.6%.

Unsurprisingly, commerce, hospitality, and construction are the most affected sectors… and young people under 25!
