This Thursday afternoon, the School of Journalism of Nice welcomed the president of OGC Nice, Jean-Pierre Rivรจre, for the signing of a unique partnership between the two entities.

The EDJ and OGC Nice are joining forces in a partnership described as “unique in France and symbolic,” as explained by Jean-Pierre Rivรจre. This collaboration includes the establishment of a scholarship. The club will fund the first year for a student in the sports section. To participate, students must submit to the school a video report and match commentary by June 30th. In July, the jury will determine who will be “the winner of this great competition,” explained Stรฉphane Staquet, director of the School of Journalism of Nice. The competition will therefore be based on meritocracy. All final year high school students can participate and try to win a full year of tuition.

The two entities have maintained special ties for many years now. They share a common point: Nicois roots. The idea of a partnership? “The idea comes from the EDJ. The sports students are all subscribers and attend all of OGC Nice’s matches. We needed to take it further,” said Stรฉphane.

Win-Win

The president of OGC Nice emphasized the beneficial aspect of this opportunity for both parties, journalists and professional players. “It is important to have a relationship of trust. Even though there may be some minor tensions with journalists, especially during the transfer window. We have already lost three or four players because the information leaked to the press,” noted J.P. Rivรจre. “This connection with the EDJ, if it can help you pursue this career, we will be very happy. At school, there is theory, if we can help you with practice, it will be a great pleasure.”

First-year, second-year, and Master’s students were invited to this conference to meet Mr. Rivรจre and ask him questions of their choosing. The event was marked by good humor and some students’ eager anticipation to meet the team players. A few students had spread the word. Some hoped to meet Todibo or captain Dante. Unfortunately for them, no players showed up at the EDJ this afternoon. Quentin, a first-year student, was one of them. He was delighted to meet the Nicois president. “I am very happy. I hope we will have the chance to collaborate with OGC Nice. This scholarship is a wonderful initiative; it will be an excellent opportunity for the student who is lucky to benefit from it.” Callum, an English teacher at the school, also finds this partnership very wise. “Even though, unfortunately, I won’t be able to benefit from it,” he said laughing before resuming more seriously. “In reality, it’s great for the school.” Starting next summer, a student will be able to take advantage of this partnership and be offered their first year at the school.
