The Vélobleu has been an integral part of life in Nice for almost two years. This success, which can be measured by the large number of bikes circulating on the city’s streets, demonstrates the residents’ desire to favor gentle and environmentally friendly modes of transportation.
There is a strong intention to develop the use of bicycles as an alternative mode of transportation to cars in the city to encourage this change in habits. This involves particularly strengthening the Vélobleu system and creating a dense, continuous, and safe cycle network.
In this dynamic, Nice Côte d’Azur is setting up 55 additional Vélobleu stations in the municipalities of Nice, Saint-Laurent-du-Var, and Cagnes-sur-Mer. This last installation phase, with work spanning from Monday, May 9 to Friday, July 1, 2011, will allow the Vélobleu system to extend from the port of Nice to the racetrack of Cagnes-sur-Mer, passing through Saint-Laurent-du-Var. These 55 stations will be added to the existing 120 stations, thus offering users a total of 175 stations equipped with 1,750 bicycles and 3,100 docking points.
For this final phase, the following are planned:
– Nice
25 stations including 6 located on the Boulevard de la Madeleine (nos. 101 to 106).
– Saint-Laurent-du-Var
12 stations including 5 located along the seafront (nos. 208 and 209) and along Boulevard Général de Gaulle (nos. 201, 203, and 204).
– Cagnes-sur-Mer
18 stations including 9 located along the seafront (nos. 301, 304, 308, 310, and 311) and along Boulevard Maréchal Juin (nos. 312, 320, 323, and 326).
