After 110 days of an intense race, Alexia Barrier finally sees the end of the adventure. Less than 200 miles from the finish, her focus is at its peak.
Yesterday afternoon, her friend Samantha Davies crossed the line after having some fun moments at sea. The next arrival expected in Les Sables d’Olonne is none other than our dear Maralpine. Despite the busy last few hours, the Azuréenne didn’t forget to salute the performance of the British skipper: “Bravo Sam, I’m so proud of you. Just like Isa (Isabelle Joschke), you are warriors. Go girls, you rock!”
For now, the arrival of TSE-4myplanet is scheduled for tomorrow between 10 AM and 2 PM if conditions remain as they are. Currently, there are headwinds that are significantly slowing down the progress of the Penguin. In the middle of the afternoon, Alexia Barrier carried out what will probably be her penultimate major maneuver before crossing the finish line.
The last efforts before being able to take a deep breath and see her technical team come on board to take the helm after three and a half months of a race against the elements and herself, which she will have brilliantly won. From the “Theta” storm to her dismasting in the deep South, then the special weather reports, and finally her severe back injury, it will take time to realize the achievement of finishing this Vendée Globe in the ranking.
Tomorrow, Alexia Barrier will finally fulfill the dream of her life: to complete a solo round-the-world journey. Considering the excitement generated by Sam Davies’ arrival, there is no doubt that, given the circumstances, the emotion will be immense on the dock of Les Sables d’Olonne.
