port_nice-2.jpg This “coup de cล“ur” event brought together over 1,100 elementary and middle school students from Nice to discover the Port of Nice in an educational and fun way.

The day was structured around three themes: A historical axis highlighting the history of commercial activities at the Port of Nice. It featured various activities and demonstrations offered by the Terra Amata Museum, the Lazaret Departmental Prehistory Laboratory, and the Association of Pleasure Boatmen.

Following a session on sustainable development awareness (environmental protection, food waste, recyclingโ€ฆ), a professional and port education theme also allowed students to meet professionals. In turn, they introduced the children to all the port’s sectors of activity, the training paths they followed to reach their professions, their missions, and their roles within the port.

The entire day included simultaneous thematic workshops. A sea outing for all the children, demonstrations (sea rescue by firefighters, drug search by a Gendarmerie dog, seabed cleaning by Port divers), and a visit to a French Navy ship (AVISO ship Ensign Jacoubet with 90 people on board, sailors and officers) provided an enriching discovery for the children and their teachers.

At the end of the day, a raffle on site awarded prizes to a primary class and a secondary class.

This annual event allowed students to make significant connections, learn about port activities/professions, and gain knowledge of their port’s historical heritage while having fun.
