Visit to the new green lung of Grand Arénas

Latest News

The new green space of Grand Arénas has opened its doors to Christian Estrosi for a tour of this green lung and the presentation of the city’s renaturation strategy.

With the aim of renaturing the city to further improve biodiversity, 67 hectares of land are dedicated to greening the western part of Nice. This “ecovalley” is a first in France, currently comprising 49 hectares of parks, with examples such as the 20-hectare Méridia Park and the 13-hectare Grand Arénas Park. To address climate challenges and soil permeability, green islands will be present throughout the city.

A Greener City

Christian Estrosi announces that nearly 70% of what has been urbanized in the last 52 years will be returned to nature. 10% of the urbanized areas will therefore be removed to give 10% of land back to natural areas. There will be 140,000 trees planted, trees with low water requirements that will absorb as much carbon footprint as possible. The diversity of trees is an important aspect. This ensures the sustainability of these spaces.
