The Eagles could not withstand the pressure on Saturday night against the leader Avignon (3-2) during the 12th round of the Ligue B championship. Avignon remains in first place with a two-point lead over the Eagles.
Kasic’s men had nevertheless started the match in the best possible way by clinching the first set (20-25). The Avignon team managed to level the score at one set each (25-22). The team from Nice regained the advantage (20-25) but the leader did not give up and seized the decisive final set (25-21). In a match full of suspense and lived up to its promises, Avignon claimed victory in the tie-break by winning 20 to 18. The Eagles are down but still managed to earn a bonus point in the standings and are only two points behind.
In the next and final round of the first half of the season, the team from Nice will host St Quentin, second to last in the standings, tied in points with St Brieuc, who are at the bottom. Avignon, on the other hand, will travel to Harnes (3rd place). A poor performance from the leader and a victory for the team from Nice could get “coach” Kasic’s players back on track!
