The volleyball players have set aside the championship to make way for the French Cup this week. Unfortunately, Nice Volley-Ball was no match for Montpellier.
Three days after their 3-0 loss in the championship at Montpellier, Nice Volley-Ball wanted to take their revenge in the French Cup. But the men of Fabrice Chalendar were quickly disillusioned.
Right from the start of the match, the Nice team lacked precision in attack. This was all the Montpellier team needed to take a significant lead in the first set (25-15).
In the second set, Nice recovered well. Offensive errors turned into winning attacks. The team responded well and managed to keep up throughout most of the set. It took an impressive performance from Nicolas Le Goff to make the difference on the Montpellier side (25-22).
Trailing two sets to none, the Nice players didn’t want to give up and launched another assault. Performing well in attack with players like François Rebeyrol and Simon Hirsch, the Eagles held on. But they quickly returned to their old ways, allowing the team from Hérault to pull ahead by as much as ten points.
Nice logically succumbed (25-15/25-22/25-15). An eighth consecutive defeat across all competitions that hurts. Now, they have to turn their attention to the championship with only one goal in mind, staying up. This will require a victory this Saturday at home against Sète. Kick-off is at 7 PM.
