Walking for Health on the Promenade des Anglais

Latest News

Saturday, June 21, a new guided walk is organized on the Promenade des Anglais, as part of the “Diabetes, It Works!” initiative. The program, free and open to all, aims to help people affected by type 2 diabetes integrate physical activity into their daily lives.

The meeting point is set for 10 a.m. at 8 Quai des ร‰tats-Unis, above the Castel Plage. This Saturday, June 21, patients, relatives, health professionals, and curious individuals are invited to participate in a collective walk on the Promenade des Anglais. The initiative, named “Diabetes, It Works!”, returns for a second date in Nice. Four other meetings are already scheduled up to November.

The concept is simple: move together, at your own pace, in a supportive environment. Each session is supervised by a coach trained in adapted physical activity. The professionals present will accompany participants, regardless of their level. No performance is expected, just regularity and connection.

“These walks allow people to establish a habit, learn more about themselves, and above all, not remain alone in the face of the illness,” explains one of the health professionals involved in the project. They are designed for people living with type 2 diabetes, but remain open to everyone: relatives, caregivers, or ordinary citizens.

Walking Together to Better Manage Health

In Nice, as in five other French cities (Lille, Nantes, Bordeaux, Paris, and Strasbourg), the objective is to offer a free collective walk every month in an accessible location. It is a way to make a well-known specialist recommendation concrete: physical activity improves the quality of life and glycemic balance of people living with diabetes.

Type 2 diabetes mainly affects adults. It accounts for more than 90% of diagnosed cases. In addition to treatments, physical activity plays an important role in stabilizing the disease in the long term. It is still necessary to integrate it into one’s daily life and not feel isolated in this endeavor.

Through “Diabetes, It Works!”, the ambition is also to create social connection. By walking side by side, participants share experiences, discuss their difficulties, and support each other. Some come alone, others accompanied. Everyone can adjust the route according to their form of the day, without pressure.

The program is supported by a group of patient associations and health professionals. It is also accompanied by the Abbott laboratory, engaged for several years with people living with diabetes.

In Nice, the next walks will take place on September 20, October 18, and November 29, always starting from the same point on the Promenade des Anglais.

To participate, just show up on site. No prior registration is required.
