We must save Private Vérola!

verola.jpg “Who can say here that I have not always served the city honestly? A spontaneous petition in my favor has already garnered 788 signatures, and I have received many letters of praise.” The former municipal councilor thus leaves the council chamber for the last time under the Peyrat label, not without having reminded that he had repeatedly warned the Mayor about the actions of certain Vialatte, Vaille and others. He will still be present at all future Municipal Councils “to ensure that the people of Nice are always well defended.”

General Councilor UMP of the 4th district of Nice, Auguste Vérola is a local elected official appreciated by the majority because he is not a fan of political politicking and double talk, which has indeed led to his current troubles following firm stances on the Mosque of Nice or the Tramway project.

“After losing 7 districts in the last elections, now they express my exclusion. It’s a parody of democracy.” A truth that resonates in the words of Auguste Vérola whose political demise was scheduled for that Friday at the Nice municipal council but who assures that he has not finished his fight against dishonesty.

A new tragicomic episode in a municipal council that thus loses one of its elements, and unfortunately not one of the worst.

Back on this case with the main person concerned, Auguste Vérola, who answers the questions of Nice Première.

Nice Première: What is your feeling after the municipal council on Friday?

Auguste Vérola: A feeling of injustice and disappointment more than revolt. I am convinced, following the hundreds of supports received, that the people of Nice need to be listened to in order to be heard.

NP: Are you rather relieved, bitter, or a clever mix of the two?

AV: Neither relieved because the problems remain nor bitter because that is not my character. I am not used to having regrets.

NP: What are the projects of Auguste Vérola in the weeks to come?

AV: To reorganize my work while keeping a vigilant eye on all my former assignments and to ensure that 11 years of work at City Hall are not wasted by ridiculous decisions or a lack of understanding by those who will take over. Obviously, I wish to continue my work at the General Council with Christian Estrosi in increasingly growing roles to always defend my district, the city center, the dynamics of our city, and the influence of our Department.

NP: Auguste Vérola on a list for the next municipal elections. Is that a possibility?

AV: A certainty.

NP: After Mathieu Obadia, Stellardo, Masséna, or yourself… Do you know who will be next?

AV: Perhaps the one who will have the courage to speak the truth.

NP: How is the Peyrat team doing a few steps away from the next municipal elections?

AV: Is there still a team? And I regret it…

NP: Do you think he will be a candidate for his succession?

AV: He might be the only one who believes it!

NP: Finally, if you had to summarize this unfortunate situation in a few words?

AV: A lot of work by a very united team in 1995 that gradually fell apart due to a regime that became autocratic and never self-critical.
