Due to deteriorating weather conditions, the city of Nice prohibits access to the sea and the coastal path from 4 PM this Saturday, August 2, 2025. The measure is preventative.

The Alpes-Maritimes prefecture issued a weather alert this Saturday morning. A strong swell is expected in the evening along the coast from Menton to Antibes. In Nice, the response was swift. The municipality prohibits swimming on all beaches and closes the coastal path from 4 PM.

In a statement released in the afternoon, the city specifies: “Due to weather conditions causing a strong swell and dangerous waves, the City of Nice has decided to prohibit swimming on all its beaches and to close the coastal path to ensure everyone’s safety.”

Dangerous waves expected between 8 PM and midnight

The swell is expected between 8 PM and midnight, but the measures are in effect from 4 PM. The aim is to anticipate risks and limit public exposure.

The authorities urge the public to respect the instructions. “The City of Nice calls on everyone to exercise utmost caution and to scrupulously follow signage and safety instructions,” the statement continues.

Municipal services and those of the Metropolis are mobilized. They will monitor the situation’s development throughout the evening. Any worsening could lead to additional measures.

The municipality reminds that these provisions aim to ensure the safety of residents and visitors, as the coastal area is very crowded during this summer period.
