They were students, now they are journalists. It’s not the diploma, a mere piece of paper, that makes them journalists but their ability to manage in the field, to analyze a given situation, to synthesize a lengthy speech and to decipher it. They must never forget that a journalist is merely a conduit. They are not in the field or at an event for their own enjoyment but to relay information, an atmosphere. It’s a delicate balance between humility and pride. The pride of not being pushed around, of not giving up at the first obstacle.
Marine Jacquemin embodies courage. On Saturday, she was all cheerful, joking about losing her computer at the Nice Airport. The day before, she had been in Gaza, amid the Palestinian civil war. Standing behind the podium, she emotionally recounts her first field report in Lebanon where she witnessed her companions falling victim to collateral damage of the war. She talks movingly about her colleague Patrick Bourrat, who was also a journalist killed in the line of duty. She is there to highlight the dangers of this profession.
Not all students from Nouvelles will have Marine Jacquemin’s career. They will not take one hundredth of the risks she has taken. They simply aspire to live from their passion. Some will stay on the French Riviera where they will cross paths with former “Nouvelliens” like Fabien (Metro), Geraldine (France Bleu Azur), Claude, Gael and Nicolas (Actufoot06), Clement (Radio Classique), Nicolas (Nice-Television) and many others… For now, they will continue to learn their craft throughout France in renowned media outlets (Nice-Matin, France Bleu, Nouvel Obs, Auto Magazine…).
Nice-Premium wishes everyone success in this demanding profession. Benoit, Caroline, David, Hanae, Marie, Marion, Melody, Romain, Simon, Willy as well as Antony and Barbara, with their reports and articles produced for our small structure, have proven under difficult conditions that they deserve the title of journalist. Hanae had to analyze paintings by Amanda Lear. Marie had to sprint through Old Nice to cover an impromptu intervention by Jacques Peyrat. Melody endeavored to coax reasoned comments about OGC Nice from local shopkeepers. Willy investigated the pigeons of Nice.

Nice-Premium does not spare its apprentice journalists. The top honor goes to David who endured two months under a tyrannical editor-in-chief, forcing him to produce a unique article about the sales in Nice. An achievement!
Ratings in journalism don’t mean much. In the field, contacts do not know them. However, Benoit Guglielmi, top of the Marine Jacquemin class, deserves recognition. He wrote high-quality articles for Nice-Premium but especially for our colleagues at The Standard where his subtle and sharp writing enhances the weekly led by Jean-Marie Tarragoni. Good luck to the entire Marine Jacquemin class. See you soon in the field!
