When the theater takes on the atmosphere of a soccer stadium!

Directed by Mohamed El Khatib, a former amateur player, the play “Stadium” brilliantly transforms theaters into football stadiums. It was at the National Theatre of Nice (TNN) that the troupe of Lens supporters made a triumphant appearance.

“Stadium” has enjoyed worldwide success and has now arrived in Nice. Actual “chโ€™tis” take the stage to express their unconditional love for football. Though the Racing Club de Lens has been relegated to the second division for several years, it and its supporters are in the spotlight. From the French championship title in 1998 to the controversy over the banner saying “Pedophiles, unemployed, inbred: Welcome to the chโ€™tis,” including the ultra movement in the stadiums, no topic is left untouched. Each anecdote strikes the spectators right in the heart.

Trumpets and percussion provide rhythm to the evening, accompanying numerous songs such as “Les Corons” by Pierre Bachelet and “Les lacs du Connemara” by Michel Sardou. Yvette, 86 years old, a fan of the Blood and Gold, introduces us to all her children and grandchildren, who are also Lens supporters. When halftime is whistled, or the intermission, if you prefer, the on-stage fry shop opens its doors, allowing the audience to grab a bite and exchange a few words with the actors.

Mayor, students, priest, referee, workers, unemployed, ultrasโ€”everyone gets a voice, sharing delicious life moments linked to their passion and dedication to their colors. This theatrical match sometimes resembles an engaged documentary, tackling issues such as freedom of expression and deprivation of freedom.
