While the injured struggle between life and death, investigators continue their investigations, the question posed on the front page by our regional daily is destined to remain unanswered… at least for the moment.
One thing is certain: The chronology and dynamics of the events clearly show that the “work” was the handiwork of professionals, but did they really intend to kill their targets – in which case they failed – or did they simply want to injure them and went too far? The answers to these questions could provide direction for the analysis and help in a better understanding of the events.
In the context of a criminal action of this kind, for reasons that could be economic (construction and real estate are some of the most risky areas of action and influence), should we think of the Calabrian ‘Ndrangheta, which has established itself in the bordering department of Imperia (the municipal councils of Ventimiglia and Bordighera were dissolved by the Italian Ministry of the Interior due to mafia infiltrations, and the former Minister Claudio Scajola, a prominent right-wing figure in this territory, has just been arrested by the Anti-Mafia Directorate) and which has well infiltrated the Azure coast? Or rather the Chechen mafia, which operates in Antibes and its luxurious areas where many “bizzmen” (as the Russians call the brazenly successful businessmen) have invested in beautiful properties, and which, when it acts, rarely holds back?
Moreover, when the situation escalates, it means that the stakes are considerably high. And in these cases, to try to learn more, as advised by the Sicilian magistrate Giovanni Falcone, who was assassinated by the mafia: “Follow the money!” Which is only the modern variation of the Latin: Cui prodest?
This just goes to show that we always come back to the same point!
